Thought people might find this interesting. If we have this in a Dark Champions era, what can we look forward to when we reach Star Hero? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050122/ap_on_hi_te/gunslinging_robot

Does anyone have information about what Solar Hero will be about? From what little I've seen (and I can't remember where I saw it, argh) it sounds like it could be something like Transhuman Space (GURPS). I've done a search on these boards but turned up nothing. Thank you! Lysando

I'm not MitchellS and will not be posting a serious of insane charts all at once. Impressed, yes, but I just don't have the time to get to that level yet. I'm, however, designing the Usagian military. My campaign takes places in Andromeda Quadrant 0:0:7. The Usagian are an aggressive force that control all systems with a 30 ly radius from the center. The reasons behind the limited control is due to both lack of military force and the inefficiency in communication systems. I'm working out some ideas for a science fiction game based loosely on Star Trek and, as I have none designed or played in a science fiction game in my live, would like any feedback you can give me. The basic premise so far is that there is a Galactic Council made up of all non-hostile sentient species yet encountered. The current estimated count is about 50 members overseen by a Galactic President elected every 10 years. The military and exploration aspect of the game are controlled by Strategic Command. This operates similar to Starfleet but with a slightly more militaristic bent, as the galaxy is a little more apt to go hostile than the Star Trek universe. T…

In the same vein as collecting together cybernetics, I wanted to start a thread with links, examples, HD files, etc for the different Sensor powers people use in their campaigns for starships. Since some use VPPs, other use MPs, others straight powers, I was interested in just the actual power construct (so sans framework) and a short description of what it is supposed to detect to build up a robust suite for all of us. Let's start sensing!!!

What the heck, it's been about a year, and Trebuchet didn't know about them, so... If you've ever needed maps for a moonbase in your game, well, why not use the maps of the first moonbase? That's right, Moonbase Alpha of Space: 1999 fame. One artist fan spent a lot of time making vector drawings of the base exterior and floorplans, then made them available for free online. Just click "Alpha Plans" on the left side of the screen, download the pdfs and enjoy. Apparently, he made them for an exhibit in 1999, where they were printed in very large size and pinned up on displays - that must have been something to see.

I don't have the Ultimate Vehicle and while it would be nice to have it, I don't really need it. I do, however, need some help with building a starship. The type of ship, per Star Hero is a Small Exploration Starship. The ship is equipped with a minor weapon system, a cold fusion engine, a complex sensor system, a hyperspace drive, and a small medical facility. There are 4 confirmed crew members with the possibility of a fifth. I would also like to have enough room to accompany up to 10 people on the ship. The players are also interested in doing some minor trading while they are on their exploration mission. I think this is very reasonable. I was goin…

Here's another odd pseudoscience query: if an individual is caught in a time paradox as a result of which they simulatenously both exist and do not exist, what happens to them? Do they just die? And what would someone who was accompanying them see in the instant the paradoxical effect took hold (the instant history was changed downtime)? The person disappearing or fading away? A flickering effect as the person slips in and out of reality? And would this be an instant effect or would it last for as long as the person's natural lifespan (i.e. until they would die naturally anyway)?

I am wondering if anyone has ever come up with a nice long list of science skills (and what they are) for Star Hero. Many Star Hero games use sciences and it would be nice to have a list of sciences (both real and future). Does anyone know where to find such a list or should we just make one up?

I'm working on the Hyperdrive system for my Star Hero campaign and need some input on it. It is pretty much identical to Star Hero pg. 192-193 with a few exceptions. It is built on a multipower because there are four levels of warp. Those levels are: 28(53) 500 Light Years / Year = 1 LY / Day 34(59) 4000 Light Years / Year = 10 LY / Day 40(65) 64000 Light Years / Year = 100 LY / Day 46(71) 512000 Light Years / Year = 1000 LY / Day All powers are built with RSR(Hyperspace Navigation, -1 per 20 points) The player rolls this after the hyperspace jump is initiated. If the roll fails, the end results will not be the desired location. I'm not sure how …

G'day My SF RPG setting Flat Black features a certain amount of bionic enhancement of characters, though it does not go anything like as far as CyberPunk does. One of the most common enhancements is reinforcement, as follows. Stage 1 Sports reinforcement Popular among athletes, practioners of the martial arts, and other people engaged in moderately dangerous physical activities not involving intentional infliction of harm, sports reinforcement involves reinforcing bones with composite and alloy members, and lacing tendons and ligaments with high-strength synthetics. This includes reinforcing the vertebrae and the spinal ligaments. The skull is strengthened with …

Just looking through some older stuff I have, and decided to reread the Fading Suns (d20 version). I like the setting somewhat, but didn't care for the d20 rules for it. Since Hero is useful for the base, before I did any conversions, has anybody else done any? I only found a few threads, but nobody had posted anything (or gave any links) (unless I missed them, that is). So, did anybody do anything with it?

I'm just curious how much space people have designed in Star Hero. I'm using the Star Hero rules currently working on a very large quadrant. The quadrant is a 10 by 10 grid of 20 cubic light year sectors. Or a grand total of 800,000 cubic light years. So how big of an area have you designed?

Is there a table for modifiers to sensor lock? I was wondering about engine burn, distant battling, etc and how those may affect acquiring a lock.

Fans of Firefly may be interested in my Firefly HERO site, a campaign resource for running Star HERO adventures in the Outworlds of Firefly. It's still under construction, but the site is up, and write-ups (including .hdz files) are available for Malcom, Inara, Jayne and River. More will go up over the following weeks. Please check it out and tell me what you think!

I've bought Hero Designer, which is worth it for calculation of points values alone, and I've been using it to design a few Roman mechs. The first, the Iaculator, looks like this: Iaculator Player: Val** Char*** Cost 25** STR 15 15** DEX 15 20** BODY 10 * 3** SPD 5 *12"**RUN122"**SWIM04"**LEAP4Characteristics Cost: 70 Cost** Power END 60** Iaculum medium-range missile: Killing Attack - Ranged 6d6, Explosion (-1 DC/2"; +3/4), Nonselective Target (-1/4) (135 Active Points); Extra Time (Full Phase, -1/2), Real Weapon (-1/4), Limited Arc Of Fire (180 degrees; -1/4), 4 clips of 6 Charges (-1/4)* 34** Fodiator Prodigium side-arm: Killing Attack - Ra…

Buck Rogers represents a most unusual milestone in not only science fiction, but American fiction in general. Debuting in Phil Nowlan's 1928 story "Armeggedon A.D. 2491," he is not only one of the first heroes to headline a far-future setting (helping to establish the sci-fi subgenre of space opera), but he's actually also one of the earliest examples of a secret agent as the public thinks of them in modern fiction. So much is his character associated with high-technology and gadgetry that his very name conjures images of such things. Since his debut, there have been a number of incarnations of the character, but likely the version portrayed by Gil Gerard from 1979-81 is …

Okay, everybody ( well, most people ) like psionics, the cool powers for sci-fi characters. The biggest problem being, their absence in real life ( or utter marginality ). Hence, in a sci-fi setting, they have to somehow appear if you want humans to have them. Idea: Instead of that being a plot hole, use it as a plot thread. Specifically, in the setting, psionics didn't seem to exist, until some point at which the parapsychologists testing suddenly turned up unambiguously positive results. Latter research at least partly quantifies psionics, learning to detect it, correlates it to areas of the brain, and so on. The question remains, though: Why did humans …

How would you build an ion cannon, ala the Star Wars ion cannons that disrupt the electronics of a ship? In other words, how would you 'stun' a ship/vehicle? I don't have SH or TUV handy so I can't look up references right now. Aroooo

One of my mildly stressful classes is "Physical Chemistry". I was studying for the exam yesterday, and I hit this passage. Now, I didn't understand a whole lot of that? If these patches of true vacuum travel at the speed of light, couldn't they already exist, and just not have reached us yet? What is a true vacuum? what is an energy barrier? why would I die in a true vacuum? (I don't think it's the same as dying because there isn't any air or air pressure)
