So this started as a simple concept, but ended up posing a number of challenges. This is a conversion from a M&M character, and the concept is straight up: she has some martial arts and she grows to be fifty feet all. After my first pass, I noticed she was going to have *ahem* huge END problems, so this is a revised version. I'm doing a play-by-email campaign set in 1981. I find that Hero Machine 3 makes it easy to whip up a character image, and it easily fits with the vibe of 1981. (The Hero Machine 3 site is harder to use now with Flash being discontinued. But you can run it using a Flash debugger--it only took me a few minutes to get it going and the official Hero Machine site walks you through it: http://www.heromachine.com/heromachine-3-lab/) Anyone have any images to share that would fit with a 1981 campaign? Here's one of the player characters:

Hey, all y'all Champions players! I've got three new mini-supplements available at the Hero Games Online Store. Each of them expands on CHAMPIONS POWERS to offer an new category of powers. They are: Aquatic Powers, which features nearly four dozen powers for characters who live in or often work underwater. Whether your character is a native of Atlantis, a water manipulator, or has powers derived from a marine animal, Aquatic Powers has just the powers you need to create him! Hard Energy Powers let a character create energy constructs with sufficient solidity and stability to function like physical objects. Since the character can create…

We know that Eurostar are the dangerously competent villains who brag about wrecking economies, but how do they work towards their goals? What do they ultimately need for endgame success? How do they support their projects? What do they prefer to target? How do they fight that's so different from everybody else? Questions like that and more. Might even help me figure out how other practical villains (or heroes) might work as well.

We have Champions of the North (for Canada) and we had in 4ed Kingdom of Champions (for Great Britain area). What places would you like to have a CotN style sourcebook for? (Remember, names pending) 6ed Kingdom of Champions Champions Down Under (Australia sourcebook) Champions of the Rising Sun (Japan) Viva Champions (formerly Champions Down South) (Mexico and Central America) Champions of Africa (formerly Darkest Champions) (Africa, Egypt, and the Middle East)

I remember reading a lot about Shelley McTyre's Champions game that she did by email. I can't seem to find any reference to it in these forums or online, but there used to be a lot on the web IIRC. Anyone have links or comments about her game? I ask because I am running a play-by-email (see link below) and I was going to use some of her materials to help new players.

So I'm thinking about a supervillain named Alchemy. His power is the ability to change any metal into any other metal. I'm thinking probably a large Multipower or perhaps a Variable Power Pool would be appropriate. But what specific slots would be fitting? Yes, a Transformation attack, naturally, but what else? For example, what if he were to change someone's steel sword into lead, making it too heavy and too soft to wield effectively? Or turning someone's advanced alloy armor into uranium (now it's radioactive) or sodium (meaning it will burst into flame when it comes in contact with water)? What other unusual effects could such Power generate? I…

Has anyone thought of more members of the clan Medina beyond Menton, Mentalla, and Thoughtcrime? Here is one. Just an outline. What do you think? Maria Medina-Cortez (La Casca😞 A teenager from the Mexican branch of the Medina family, she has rather weak psionic and telekinesis powers. Someone of unknown origins sent her a stranger helmet which amplifies her powers enough to be a threat. Right now she has no idea who sent her the device. She uses it for her base wants and desires, but us not exactly evil yet. Spoiler The usual subjects are Doctor Destroyer, who would use the helmet to actually limit her powers and make them…

GMs often have to make up NPCs, villains, heroes, episodes and sometimes props to make a particular game episode work. After all the work is put in and the players have gone through your episode, what do you do then? Do you keep your episodes around for later referencing? Do you toss your (paper?) props away? Do you keep track of each and every single episode and make comments on what happened? What do you do?

So I will be attending North Texas RPG Con and I will be running the classic adventure Microfilm Madness. Only thing is this is my first time running this and I was hoping for some advice on how to run this particular adventure. So anyone?

Defender has Code Versus Killing (Common, Total). Over the years I've seen it often implicitly assumed this is a common Silver Age trait, but I find myself questioning that. As written, if Defender is confronted with a quandry, he has to spend a full phase affected by this Complication, and then make Ego rolls at -5 to go against it (if the GM allows it all). That may or may not be a realistic portrayal of Defender, who is a character sheet and not a comic book character written over and over again across the decades. Superman is often cited as an exemplar of Code Versus Killing, and yet every major version of Superman (excepting maybe a brief run of the Super-Friends) ha…

Hey hive mind, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to build a fae or crossroads demon character using pact type effects (some verbal limitation or nnd vs contract holders etc) I admittedly don’t have a lot of experience with the system and the different pool types still confuse me. It’s 5th Ed and I’m looking for effects like a illusion to “be” someone else for a limited time with something like a “may I have your name?” type question. How to build the pact requirement limitations is where I’m stuck, I’m currently trying it using major transform with nnd (refuse the pact) that gives a custom perk pact bound and the pact type powers all require the perk, but it’s clunky …

Anyone here do a retro campaign, set in the 70s-90s? I can see a few ways to do it. One would be to use the comics of the time for the vibe. Another way would be to use the characters and images from the time but actual gameplay could have a more modern feel, like riffing on the trope of the time and taking it in a new direction. I've played in Champions groups where everyone was very adamant that we stay in genre--this is actually a very common experience for me. I have often played in games where the players act as "genre police." As GM I always weigh the genre tropes and try to stay very much within the lines, but I never complain when players/c…

I've been thinking, which are the most iconic Villains, Heroes, and Organizations in the Champions Universe. I came up with these individuals/groups. Villains: 1) Doctor Destroyer. When you think of Champions and Villains, this guy should come to mind. He has an Island. He has a Day. He was about to blast Seeker in the cover of Champions 4ed. There are more powerful villains in the Champions Universe, but you can count them on one hand (the many forms of Tryion count as ONE, silly). 2) Foxbat If Doctor Destroyer is the poster child of "oh shit...we are doomed", then Foxbat is the poster child of "oh joy...". Ever since Enim…

There's a supervillain from V&V that I use called F.I.S.T. with a very nice acronym: Fighting Infantry Shock Troop. Some time ago for fun, I decided to run an episode where he had recruited more villains with similar acronyms: F.I.S.T. (already mentioned) F.O.O.T. (Fearless Overly Optimistic Trooper) S.P.L.E.E.N. (Super Powerful Likeable Easily Exasperated Nerd. Yeah, it's bad but at least I did it.) E.Y.E. (Ever Youthful Egoist) H.E.A.R.T. (Highly Explosive and Rude Trooper) A.R.M. (A Rough Mercenary) Yeah, I'm most likely not going to run this episode again but it was fun trying it one time.

The Complete Rubberman? I'm putting together a PC for a 5e game, along the lines of Plastic Man or Reed Richards, and a tiny bit of Elongated Man and his twitchy nose. But my question is: Has anyone ever played an ongoing "stretchy" character? Is it worth it? Does it fit or do the other players/characters not really take it seriously? And...is there anything a stretchy character could buy as a power that is thinking outside the box? Would it be enough to justify a VPP, or just a Multipower? I know Stretching as a power, certainly. I can see Damage Reduction. Maybe extra Running with the long legs....Gliding perhaps.... …

Hi. In-person gaming at conventions will someday resume, and in the interim I've been updating various Champions characters and materials. In between all of the number crunching and balancing CPs for 5th Edition, I came across a digital copy of 3rd Edition that I had in my archives. After skimming through it, it made me feel even more nostalgic for the game since it seemed much simpler and in terms of writing style, read like a game book to be played instead of a textbook to be studied. I can really relate to a previous thread describing a Third Edition Renaissance. Previously, I remember using 5th Edition to introduce two people to superhero roleplaying a fe…

I'm creating a "mad scientist" character for my new Champions campaign. A lab accident drove Dr. Zachary Argon around the bend and he now thinks he's Zarkon (alternately, Dr. Zarkon / Lord Zarkon / Dark Lord Zarkon / Baron Zarkon / Duke Zarkon). Personality-wise, I see him as a mad scientist type villain from an 1950s sci-fi serial. I'm aiming for "over-the-top" here. Unfortunately, I was born too late and didn't see a lot of Flash Gordon or his ilk growing up. (Though I do acknowledge the similarity of his name to Dr. Hans Zarkov, formerly of NASA...) The picture below is what I'm using for him. First I'm trying to figure out what his gear is…

I was just watching Batman: Soul of the Dragon, and there was this henchman of Cobra who can duplicate when cut. Basically the starfish ability to reproduce, but in snake form ("hydra"). How would you simulate that? Absorption body into duplication?

I have a few ideas for villains and I want to list them and get some feedback from them. Piper : A criminal using a magial bag pipe. The main thing I want in the build is to create sound effects without doing Mind Control (which is the go to power for a man with a magical or scientific musical instrument). Well, I'm using a bag pipe for him because, well, why not. Red Devil : Based on the villain in the Champions RPG Dos Game which never happened, he is a carnival fire breather gone bad. Part gypsy, he has learned some arcane secrets about fire. Note: he is not a magic based villain. His "arcane secrets" are not magic, he is not a mutant, he just l…

One of foremost powers of Brangomar, the Shadow Queen is "fairy tale-style" magic. All well and good but what does that even mean? Yes, I know it denotes a particular flavor and set of limitations but I'm afraid I'm not literate enough to know what those are presently. Might somebody be informed enough to know?

I'm starting a campaign around... I dunno... November, maybe. I'm going to post briefs of characters in this thread. The characters are sourced from old supers games, my own mind and more than a few bad dreams or late nights. How does this affect you? It does not UNLESS you like a character concept and want to run with it. Use it in your own game! If you post a write up based on the brief, I'll make sure he, she, it, they, them, WHAT? is used in the Metahumanity guidebook when they are all complete. "BUT WAIT!" I hear you cry, "ISN'T THIS JUST YOU TRYING TO GET US TO FILL IN THE GAPS IN YOUR GAME??" Yes. Yes, it is. You c…

Mulraven House is a location mentioned in DEMON - Servants of Darkness. It's described as "a mansion built by Elisha Mulraven, the Beggar King of London, after he fled England in 1843". Sometime after that it came into the possession of Prince Blackwell, one of the identities of the Edomite. It's located in Canberra, Australia. What is interesting is that the city of Canberra didn't exist in 1843. It was founded and formally named in 1913. There were Real World(tm) buildings in the area before then, some of which have been preserved. Clearly, in the Champions Universe, Mulraven House was one of these. The obvious question is…
