I am creating a speedster character for an early Marvel style game, and was wondering if any of you creative types could give me a few ideas. I'm looking for something that will provide some possible NPC's, a "reason" for his powers, no mutant stuff, and some personality. I'm just looking for ideas, not the whole background. I've tried a couple times to come up with something and it tends to quickly veer into the more "modern" style of Marvel.

Hello, i'm an italian player, 31 years old. I speak a simple english but i'll try to talk with you, guys: i'd like to buy "Champions" caus i like superheroes. I don't know nothing about Hero Games but i've heard a lot of happy impressions from others players years i play. Now i'm going to buy (in Italy) Champions but i don't know what i need to start to play superheroes. Can i play Champions just buying "Champions" the core book or i must buy the HERO SYSTEM core book before? Aren't there the play rules in "Champions" or i find them only in the base HERO SYSTEM core book? Finally, what i need (at minimum) to play Champions? I'm sorry for the poor english. I …

"And finally, we reach the final stages of your training. The Press. Remember. The world does not know of magic; does not accept it. Your gain in power is 'through meditation and hard work'. The rituals 'merely focus your mind', unlock the powers you clearly 'already possessed'. That is why I picked metahumans for training. That is why the Defenders do not live under a cloud of suspicion." Tane suddenly winces in pain. By the way he stiffens, it's clearly the wound to his left leg that pains him. By the grim expression he bears, he's about to relate some ancient history. A good student picks up on these minor cues. "I tried telling the truth, once…

Well folx it's 2005. 10 years ago Marvel stopped it's X-titles for 4 months to do the Age of Apocalypse storyline. Accordingly Marvel will be doing a 10th aniversary deal later this year to celebrate. Hand of the AoA, few mini-series, etc. I'm just curious if anyone had taken AoA and translated it over the their Champion's game, either as an entire campaign or just something to do on the side. To me it brings new meaning to "Day of the Destoryer," where the evil Dr. has finally succeeded in his plans and and it's up to the remaining heroes to make things right. And just cause, here's a pic from AoA

This is for a Champions campaign. I've got an NPC hero who weilds the legendary Excalibur. But other than an HA attack or an HKA, what else should it have? Also, should the HA and/or HKA have AP and/or Pen? Any ideas and help here would be greatly appreciated. Richard

Hi folks... I'm looking for some suggestions on how to build a character's ability to avoid getting hit. Ideally I'm looking for someone with abilities to avoid damage like Nightwing, The Batman, and other "super skilled" kinds of character's. Originally I built a character with some armor (Kevlar) and a good (though not super human) dex, and some nice combat skill levels. I expected him to fair well. But in my GM's campaign there are an awful lot of area effect attacks, or bricks who pick up trucks to drop on my agile little guy, and suddenly all the DCV in the world does little when I suddenly need to abort to Dive for Cover to avoid the minimal attack vs. DCV 3 to …

Hey there, I was thinking about the thread about the Island of Dr. Destroyer and I was wondering if anyone here ran or played in the Day of the Destroyer adventure. I had a group play in it once where they had to fight Deathstroke and the supervillian team in the adventure. I had a group that was primarily a mystic type team, everyone had to have a magic/supernatural background. This was OK, but no one had any technical skills so I had a government agent type super come along to help. He was called the Protector, sort of a Captian America/Iron Man hero. The other characters where Arcana, a sorceror with a magic VPP Tombstone, a sentient stone Golem Is…

Today I ran my Island of Dr. Destroyer one off. I had four players. One picked Defender, another Witchcraft. The other two picked characters I had generated myself - The Archer (Green Arrow rip-off, right down the the Boxing Glove Arrows) and Mind Maiden (Mystic armed with a TK/Telepathy multipower that for some reason also contained Desolid). No one chose any of the Incredibles. The players are heading to the island in a PRIMUS Air Raft. The Archer is the only one with piloting skills. He tried to bring the Air Raft to the island by flying low and avoid the island ground-based radar (and by extension the ground-based Quad-Lasers and Cruise Missiles). He's doin…

Lets say you got superpowers. You're young (late teens, early 20s) fairly powerful (700-800 Points in Hero Terms) and a member of a small coalition of similiar beings. Would you feel obligated to use your powers to "Change the world" in the sense of imposing your vision on it? WOuld you feel you had the right or responsibility to do so? In most cases your powers have not gifted you with any particular insight or wisdom beyond what you normally have. Fishing for opinions here.

And I'm thinking about having Black Harlequin have an Escapade involving one. One of the things it'll involve is driving the horses and a pair of elephants crazy so they stampede, but I don't have stats for either animal. Help?

I had this nice, long presentation written at one point, but I'll save you all the pain of reading it. If you were to build the ultimate thief/scout, what abilities would you consider critical? What would not be critical, but really nice to have? This is the guy you send in to take photos of the secret plans, get the base layout, smuggle weapons to your captive teammates. A secret base on a remote island? Not a problem, just a vacation in the sun to this guy. As an added bonus, it would be nice if he could drop the average villain minion guard or two before they can set off an alarm if he gets them from ambush.

I throw myself on the mercy of fellow Hero gamers for help with this concept! I want to create a new character for a group. He's going to be a modern pirate who works with the heroes or even be part of the group. He may prey on other modern day pirates for income but I really haven't thought this out too much. I would also like him to have a ship and whereas I don't have the Ultimate Vehicle, I do have Champions 1, 2, 3, 4th & Hero Games 5th Ed. I think I even have Danger International. What do I want for this guy is the next question. I want him to have the Fencing martial arts with sword (perhaps hi-tech sword), though a modern pistol/energy gun of some …

I have a new player joining my game (making it a 50/50 gender split group!) She wants to play a tounge-in-cheek stereotypical anime character, specifically a teenage-bunny-ninja-alien-princess-schoolgirl. We have her character finished but not her 50 pt follower, a space bunny/monkey thing. What sort of powers would you give Princess WhatsHerName's cute animal sidekick?

I suck as buying skills for PC's. I usually find myself in a game going "Damn, that skill should have been bought, it fits my character". So, since I'm working on a new character, I figured I'd ask for assistance. The character is born and bred wealthy member whose gotten involved with the environmentalist movement. While involved with the Environmentalism Movement, he becomes an ecoterrorist until a close call. So the skill sets I need are his growing up in the wealthy background. For that I've got: Bureacratics Oratory High Society Persuasion For the Environmentalist Ecoterrorist I've got the following skills: Demolitions KS: Environmental Ac…

(This is a variant of my own on http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26734) In the setting where your character resides, a number of new superhumans of considerably higher power than usual (say 700-800 pts for a 350-pts. standard) have been recently appearing, and several existing characters have suddenly experienced a significant power boost of comparable magnitude. Investigation of the source (which would typically be a drug/genetic treatment triggering mutant superhuman power development, or possibly, as a variant, a training/meditative regiment triggering mystical powers) turns out that powers awarded by it are genuine and permanent, with minimal side…

I havent picked up either Grimoire yet. (They are soon on the list.) Are the spells in them compatible with a Champions-genre supermage? I'm at the point in my world design where I'm putting together the "Dr. Strange" of it. Thanks Richard

Okay....having finally got the book for myself. I'm going to briefly state my thoughts on it. I have no real concern for the implications of referencing real world religions in the book....so you'll see nothing about that here. Now.... The Good: 1) Nice discussion of the various magical archetypes present in most games, along with ideas on building such characters. 2) Magical styles covered in detail. The info on Shamanism alone had me totally redesign a character I had previously built with that theme. 3) Probably the most comprehensive look at creating the "Astral Form" available in any Hero system product. The Bad: 1) Much of the informati…
