For an upcoming villain idea, I need the phrase 'Cogito Ergo Sum' conjugated to the plural ("We think, therefore we are"). I've been digging online, but I can't find a translator. Anybody happen to have enough obscure knowledge to pull this off?

Alexander Hades thought he had it all. A lovely wife, Demeter, a bright (if rebellious) teenage daughter Persephone, job security, a well-above-comfortable standard of living, and a secret underground lair from which to terrorise the world. Oh, and superpowers, though, at times, that was a perk. That was, until he got captured trying to strip-mine Alaska for gold. (Granted, it was the entire state of Alaska... all at once...) Knowing that he'd just escape, the Powers that Be decided to try a new type of experimentation. Without trial, Hades was placed into suspended animation for 12 years in a device known as the Burgess Box, and his mind and personality rewrit…

Building a superteam (goes by the name Fist), and the leader goes by whatever the latin for "thumb" is. Any help on what that may be would be appreciated. The rest of the members are Primus, Secundus, Tertias, Quartus. Thanks much.

Either while net surfing or due to an associate informing them your character stumbles across a fan site devoted to his or her career in crimefighting. Not that strange, but this site is intensive. All the stories, all the news photos and information on the character's life that could possibly be known and a few details they thought weren't released, including details of things only they know. The "fanfiction" has details about their personal life that, if they are guesses, are amazingly accurate. The art section contains some racy pictures that include physical details they their costumes don't show, though their idenity is always concealed (If they have a Secret ID). Ov…

I have a character who is a shapeshifter, but not in the traditional sense (i.e. mimicking other people). He's similar to Odo or the T-1000; he can 'go liquid' (Desolidification), Stretch, and grow Extra Limbs. Here's my problem: I don't like any of the more traditional shapeshifter names. "Chameleon" doesn't work because he doesn't actually change colors; "Morph" sounds like a dog with a cleft palate. I've currently selected the least offensive name I could come up with, Shyft, but I really don't like that either. And, there's another catch: He's not a well-educated individual, so he wouldn't be likely to select a name from some obscure source (like, say, Norse or Greek my…

Hi everyone, I'm a long time HERO fan and semi-lurker. I'm starting up a new Champions campaign soon with some friends of mine. I whipped up some basic campaign guidelines and house rules and would appreciate everyone's feedback. I should note, that in some instances we will be using d20 for certain rolls such as combat. Most of my players are d20 diehards so I'm trying to ease them into HERO gradually. Also, I personally prefer the flat probability curve of the d20 over rolling 3d6. I feel it makes combat a little faster and increases drama since high rolls and crits are more common without the Bell curve. ---------- Character Creation Guidelines: …

A long-time lurker finally speaks up. I've seen several references on the boards referring to the "Slug Curse" or "Curse of the Elder Worm" as an explanation for the Malvans' moral and political decline, but I haven't seen any reference to it in the official Hero materials. Have I missed a reference in my reading (I have most of the books I think might contain a reference, including Champions Universe, CKC, Galactic Champions, and Terran Empire, but I may have missed it -- a page reference would be great), or is this someone's campaign storyline? Thanks in advance

Imagine you're a stereotypical billionaire playboy-turned-crimefighter. What equipment would you buy yourself? The caveat: the equipment must be real-world teachnology available legally circa 2001. Just FYI, the character is a brick/energy blaster with flight.

Post 1 This thread is to post a side/solo adventure I ran that would get a new player going with his character, and link into the larger Maverick's story I'm re-printing here. This was kept separate from the others, and this might be the first time Storn et al, would have seen this side story that would eventually tie with the larger campaign. From GM:

And yet a third thread that will soon tie into this Maverick's thread and this Impetus/Mavs thread ... but for a few posts, it was separate. Enjoy Geoff! From Geoff/Speedball: ----- From GM:

I am about to start GMing a 4-colored supers game based in a very dark location. The mood of the world is very dark with feelings of hoplesness and despair, however I need to keep the 4-colored feel alive at the same time. The characters will be asked to make characters of 200+100 (about 25pts of limitations will be a few mandatory campaign specific flaws). They will be told to use any origin and BG story they like, with any specific origin of power (except magic, because it has no place in this world set). All background flaws will be disfavored (for reasons Im about to explain), while psych. and phsic. limitations will be looked upon favorably. However, at …

Has anyone here ever done something really evil in their game to the players? I don't mean walk into a death trap and they all die evil. I mean, evil plans or players helping the villains without knowing it. I have a couple of evil things under my belt that will be appearing very soon. First, is my VIPER background story. I have been subtlely having VIPER doing things preparing themselves for a completion of one of their major goals. And at this point, I can't see VIPER failing. So pretty soon, they will enact on that plan and the game world will be dynamically different. Then their is Troy. The players know it is bad news. One of them keeps commenti…

This situation came up in our game yesterday, and I wanted to solicit opinions from others. One of our characters was hit with an Entangle during a fight with hostile aliens. When her Phase came she Desolidified, passed through the Entangle, resolidified, and decked the alien. I wasn't real comfortable with this, but couldn't really come up with an official rule which which would prohibit this sequence of events since turning Powers on or off is a 0 Phase action. So I allowed it, since only an Attack action ends a Phase but movement or merely turning on/off a Power does not. My question for the rules gurus is: Is this legal, or did I and my co-GMs/players just m…

Well, this is post #2000. I figured it was as good a time as any to jump on the "post my characters" bandwagon.I decided to dust off, update, revamp and/or revise some of my favorite PCs. All should be done for 350 pts, though some versions that are currently in play might be more due to experience rewards. I'll post 'em as I finish 'em. Hopefully there’ll be a dozen or more before I’m done. I'd appreciate any comments and critiques y'all feel are appropriate.Anyway, here's the first, a scientific brick by the name of "Magnum". He's meant to conform to most basic games in terms of points and overall concept.MagnumPlayer: Dave Thomley Val Char Cost 30/60 STR 20…

I've got a player that wants to make a blind mystic. She wants to try to make a power that would allow her to see through other peoples eyes. She also wants to try to make a spell for her character that would be able to create a "floating eye" that she could use this power on during battle. The floating eye we'd want to have some physical form so it could be destoryed, and possibly to move it making it like a 1/2 phase action that costs endurance. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Andrew

I have decided instead of cluttering the boards with a bunch of character threads I would just make a few threads and put multiple characters on them (However do to my desire not to have to many on them I will be keeping to a theme Having said that I am working on my worlds JLA style heroes, all are part of a larger team. The first one up is the Star Knight Jolith Star Knight Alternate ID: Jolith Archetype: Powered Armor/Weapon Master (Energy Sword) Background/History: Jolith grew up on a planet that was primarily agriculture, but also was a major way-station for the sector of space. His family owned a farm, restaurant and market (The…

ah the good old days when everyone knew cobra was evil and that G.I Joe was good. *sigh* right now i am in the process of brining cobra into my campang as a long story arc. here is my plot outline. let me know what you think. Cobra Main Characters: Cobra Commander: leader of cobra, want to rule the world. He has many ego problems. Baroness: cobra’s intelligence agent and one of there best pilots, loves Destro Destro: Cobra’s weapons specialist and a good fighter, loves Baroness Dr. Mindbender: cobra’s technical design specialist. He “replaces†venom Dr. Venom: cobra’s expert on biowarfare. He cares only about him self. Main outline…

Since I've started posting on this board, I've referred to a character who is a detective/martial artist. He is my main character, and I am quite attached to him. I devised him witht he 4th edition rules in 1999, and have updated him with the XP he's earned, and twice "reset" his to 350 points in order to put him in games with other 350s. My only problem is that I named him something that sounded good at the time, but turns out to be really cheesy, considering: Nighthawk. He was named after the Marvel character of the same name, sort of as an homage. I did not know about the official Nighthawk in the CU. Since then I've been trying in vain to find a bet…

Utility Belt, pp. 130. Its set up as a Focussed Multipower. The first slot listed is Advanced Lockpick Set: +2 to Lockpicking, OAF. I'm in Hero Designer trying to put the Utility Belt on a character. My first thought is that the Advanced Lockpick Set is Skill Levels. But when I put it in, the program doesnt like Skills being put in Multipowers and doesn't like Skill Levels being a Focus. What am I doing wrong? How do I build the Advanced Lockpick Set as part of the cool Utility Belt? Richard

One of the recent adventures I ran involved a large number of demons overruning Los Angeles. The player characters managed to take care of the summoner(s), and therefore sent the demons back to where they came from. But the whole point of the scenario was actually to get to the aftermath. There were demons causing mayhem in LA for almost 24 hours. Mostly, these were brutish thug-type demons, with a few tempter-type demons, and lots of imps. I'm looking for suggestions of what some of those demons may have been up to, that will come back to bite the player characters later. For example: - One or more persons made bargains for infernal power, and will be …

I'm working on my euroguard team and one of the members is the cross sort of captain america with a dash of batman and azreal. the guardian of a sacred relic and memeber of a offshoot sect of the knight templar. The relic not only enhaces the guardians physical prowess but allows hinm to perform healing and create zones of consecrated earth perform exorsisms and banishments. I've had a lot of problems working out how best to build these powers so I'd like to ask the board for suggestions for holy power builds.

I was talking with a friend recently about his new character, and we came up with a few character concepts that I would definately forbid. Mostly because they were campaign breakers or went against the genre. Here's a few of them: The Philanthropist: The Power of Money. He's bought 15 points of Money and lots of contacts. Basically, when a villain robbs the museum, he shows up and shouts "STOP Villain! You havn't paid for that! Allow me..." Then it finds the curator, offers whatever amount of money he wants and pays for the items being stolen, then "there you go... here's your receipt. Have a nice day!" We figure after about a session or two he'd find a team of VIPER…
