I was thinking about the aliens from Alien. If you hit hard enough to do BODY, then you trigger a killing attack, continuous, uncontrolled acid damage shield that diminishes over time (several phases). How would construct this power? Juggling all the advantages and combinations makes my brain juices squeeze out of my ears sometimes and I was looking for a little help. 1d6 Killing Attack (physical, acid) Self must take body (-1/2) Damage Shield (+1/2) Continuous (+1 for damage shield) Reduced END (+1/2) Gradual Effect 1 turn? (-1/4)? other modifiers? Cheers.

I have a question regarding Missile Deflection/Reflection. It is essentially a block that works with ranged attacks. What if I want a Missile Deflection/Reflection that works automatically, as a continuous effect, without requiring the maneuver? (for those of you who play GURPS, think of the Reverse Missile spell). Or say a missile deflection that works on all thrown objects (intense gravity field, windstorm, etc.) This is a continuous effect and doesn't require the hero to react to each attack. Anyone? Cheers.

Ok, after going through my copy of CKC and reading the write up for Black Harlequin, I've decided that he'd make an excellent enemy for my PC. One of them anyway. However my Batman type PC, Blind Justice, seems a little TO like a natural to put up against BH. Sure Bats inspired Blind Justice [as did Daredevil and the Shadow, yes I liked that amalgmam enough to create a character out of him ] but I don't want to make him to Batman-like. Then the solution hit me, Black Harlequin is an evil clown, why not have him be hunted by a GOOD clown? Yes ladies and gentlemen, I'm officially bringing Merry Andrew out of retirement as a PC of mine. What I want to know …

Before the boards went down Scott Heine was redoing the Protectors complete with real-life stories about his campaign. Last I saw he had done about half of them. Anyone know if he finished this? I seem to remember him saying he got real busy, though. Perhaps he didn't have time.

I am currently building a sanctum for my super-mage. I am locating the base in an extra-dimensional pocket. I am trying to design a magic detector into the base. I want the detector to detect magical disturbances anywhere on the earth. It would be similar to the X-Men's computer Cyrebro (sp?) that detects mutant activity world wide, except of course this would be geared toward magical phenomena. However, since the detector will be located in another dimension, I am confused about how to build it. Anybody got any ideas? Help!

Here's a robot I sketched for my Champs game. Yeah, kinda overboard with all the junk sticking out of him everywhere. So now all he needs is a name, origin, write-up, and a plausible explanation of all that crap on him.

Just a quick note to let y'all know that now that Ben's finished writing The Spacer's Toolkit, he's finally had the time to post the April update of the Rules FAQ. The PDF has not yet been updated AFAIK. Please post any questions/comments in the "Company Questions" thread on this subject.

One of my players has come up with a character, but we can't come up with a name for him. All characteristics are unaltered, except for DEX (20), and SPD (6). He has Physical and Energy Absorption, with linked 0 End Force Field (only up to amount rolled by absorption) and Knockback Resistance. Points absorbed go to a Multipower, with additional 0 End Force Field powers; an additional personal force field, a force field useable by others at range, an entangle (with force field SX), and an energy blast (area effect line and zero range, a force field battering ram). (Yes, I realize he's a sitting duck for the first Stun-Only attack that comes along, but t…

It's been a while since I've played Champions and have forgotten some of the tricks used to save points on characters. Things like lowering com to 8 or using scores like 18 to lower cost but keep stat rolls the same. I'm playing with a GM that will use plenty of point savers on his NPCs but won't share so I need to know a few to make my guy compatible. Can ya'll please list some here? Thanks for any help.

I'm coming out of lurk mode since my creativity has abandoned me. I have two different characters. 1. Basically, a fire elemental. I have the stats and powers, etc., but would like to add some power tricks ... only I can't think of any! 2. This is a more generic question. Has anyone developed a villian along the lines of the Wishmaster (I think that's the name). The genie/demon guy who granted people's every "wish" but always with a horrible twist? Thanks!

I wanted to get people's opinion on something. I've noticed that at least two characters in Meriquai Falls (the heroines Vixen and Jade Phoenix) have names exactly like characters in two other campaign settings. There is (an admittedly more adult) heroine named Vixen in the Strike Force universe while Millennium City is the proud host of a martial arts villain (male, no less) named Jade Phoenix. To add insult to injury, both Jade Phoenix characters are Korean martial artists! (At least the two Vixen characters have different modis operandi.) (As a side note, the heroine Jade Phoenix has been a staple of the Meriquai Falls setting since 1993... she was origina…

One of my PCs is an Indiana Jones meets Thor style multiform with an Egyptian theme. He left me his hunteds to do as "mystery villians", yet I can't get a handle on them. I was thinking of an ancient warrior clan type dealie thingamabob guy and maybe a hawkheaded living statue type guy and... well, I'm sucking bilge water on these. Any ideas? P.S. The campaign is set in 2053 and I have a brief background of supers herehref>.

Hey, I hope this isnt over the line, but I wasnt too happy w/ the write up on GROND in CKC. I prefer him as more of a HULK level monstrosity that takes the whole group to stop, and maybe then some. So I took the liberty of altering him and here is the result: Grond Player: Val Char Cost 100/175 STR 90 18 DEX 24 50 CON 80 30 BODY 40 5 INT -5 10 EGO 0 30 PRE 20 6 COM -2 42 PD 22 30 ED 20 4 SPD 12 30 REC 0 100 END 0 105 STUN 0 6" RUN012" SWIM030"/45" LEAP0Characteristics Cost: 301 Cost Power END 22 Horns: Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 1d6 (plus STR) (vs. PD), Armor Piercing (+1/2) (22 Active Point…

Now that everybody who is ANY body has this wonderful little book... Okay, now that some of us are lucky enough to have it in our greedy little mits and have read it... I was wondering, does anyone have some 'personal touches' they want to share on what they are going to add /elaberote on it? I realize there might be SPOILERS on this thread, so if you are a player and not a GM, you might want to be good and not look. I, for one, have some infernal plans for the 'Incubus club'... heh heh

I just noticed that the boards now have 1000 members...pretty good for a system that's been around 20+ years. Thanks to the DOJ guys for providing such an interesting forum to swap ideas.

What's the best CE: Weather 50 AP can buy? (Stupid elemental control....) help? CE is now so much more complicated.... Actually, while y'all here, does anyone have any more general suggestions for weather powers? It's not something I'm particularly familiar with....

OK here's the deal: I am three sessions into the first tabletop game I've run in five years after wasting my time on that LARP garbage. I've resurrected my old Champ's campaign and advanced the timeline 40 years. I only have one return player and he's playing an all new character. The world is entirely homegrown, as I've never used CU stuff for my games (although I have swiped a bad guy or two, in a pinch). My big question is: What sourcebooks do you feel will give me the most use for my (limited) dollar? I have 4thEd Ninja Hero, Kingdom of Champions, Dark Champions, and the 5th Ed Hero System book, whose best new upgrade is a decent binding. I love not chasing pages…

Background: I'm getting ready to run a Bronze Age style superhero campaign set in CU in 2003. This is my first attempt at GMing a campaign (I played in a Champions campaign that ended 10 years ago that started with 3rd edition and switched over to 4th, I played a Ferro Lad clone and it was a blast!) and I've taken on the responsibility to get back into HERO and into gaming, since it's hard to find GM's. Also, I've always wanted to run a campaign and her is my shot! The character creation phase is almost complete (and it wasn't really that difficult, the process of concept to paper with 350 points was a lot easier than I remember with the 250 point of 3rd and 4…

They keep mentioning a "Secret Crisis" in the CU books and implying that it was a huge, epic deal that caused lots of crazy stuff to happen, but... What's the real story behind it? If I want to run my PCs through a Secret Crisis adventure, what does that entail? I honestly have no idea what the event is supposed to represent.

I'm just curious how all the other GM's out there would build this. I've got an item, say Thor's Hammer, that when first picked up transfers a suite of powers to the weilder. However, the more the weilder holds the hammer, the more powers he gets. Let's say that upon first receiving Thor's powers, the weilder only has Strength, Durability, Flight and some basic lightning blast abilities. However if the wielder continues to use the hammer, they gain the ability to sense weather patterns, and eventually control said weather patterns. Since this hammer is a pure OAF, and ANYbody can use it, the sole limitation is that the hammer has to be used for a length o…

I am looking for at least one person, perhaps two or three, who can assist me in the completion of the Master Lists of Limitations. The current circumstances in my life prevent me from devoting the time and effort I need to do more than add to the website once in a blue moon, and there's still too much to do on the Master Lists for that to be a viable option. I can still maintain the website... I just need assistance getting all of the unwritten limitations finished. Please respond either here or send an email to me at jack @globalguardians.com if you're interested in helping out. Thanks.

I was wondering what kind of imaginary substances/materials do people use in their games to accomplish various comic book effects. For a Marvel Age campaign, I created "Isotope X" which is actually a space-born isotope of Lawrencium (atomic number 100, IIRC, which sounds so cool). Iso X is actually somewhat stable, but the nuclei do occassionally shift to lower energy states. However, in the case if Iso X, instead of releasing radiation is releases the "X-Effect" which amounts to localized disturbances in the laws of physics. The most common effect of this is to create super-powers. Some scientists have tried to provoke the X-Effect out of samples of Iso X, but due t…
