Just wanted to start a new thread dedicated to the future product Muerte Files. It will be a POD project the included all released material by Tiger Paw Press. The material will be re-edited and include new material. Look at my notes there will be a new villain team called the Reapers that are connected to TI, as well as the Conquistadors from TPP VC II. There will be two adventures plus other adventure hooks. Two places of interest on San Muerte, as well as some important people linked to them. More on the secrets of Muerte discussed in Villainy Codex II. Still considering other additions as well. Will come with a wrap around cover by John Becaro,…

Hey everyone. Does anyone have a scan of Champions: The Super Hero Role Playing Game (2nd Edition) pages 37-44? They are missing from the existing files, and DriveThru has brought this to my attention. - Jason

Oops. Double post. Saved it by making it a review. Anyways, it's a relatively short book designed for putting together quick basic heroes for starting play for players who don't exactly have the time to do a fine tune build. The builds are not exactly balanced but don't exactly look thusly either (no 15d6 blasts or 8d6 killing attacks). It's good for a beginning character which can be balanced later on. Steven W. Otte isn't a bad writer for someone writing his first rpg book. The sample characters are ok (The Amazing Connor: a street magician turned the real thing, Blue Streek: a female reporter turned speedster, Dragonflame: a trained …

If this doesn't spark an idea for an amazing superhero campaign then nothing will: (Seen on Mastodon, original source not known)

Not that anyone here needs help writing up PCs or NPCs, but here's the latest hero I wrote up. I hope to use him as a PC someday. In the meantime, I like the personality (no angst please, we're well rid of the 1990s) and I think the illo turned out well. I hope he may be of use to someone else, too. While my group plays 5e, Rep is written up in both 5e and 6e versions. It was somewhat interesting just seeing where the points shifted around. (And please let me know if I flubbed anything. No man is wise by himself, especially at HERO System accounting and editing.) ADDENDUM: Not quite pure 5th edition. I give the 5e version 75 points of Complica…

For the first time in literally decades, I've been looking back at the Third Edition of Champions. It's the version I learned to play on, and there are times when i miss the simplicity--especially as I contemplate teaching new people to play. So I've begun building characters again. And I've got to tell you, here's something really cool about building a character with pencil and paper. I've had to relearn how a few things work, like END (Holy cow! How did my heroes ever stay awake for more than a Turn?!) and proper Elemental Controls, but I'm now able to create a new character in ~30 minutes, start to finish. It's been a lot of fun. Anyway, I've created a hand…

Hi guys, I have been running and playing in rpgs a long time, since i was eleven! I am in my early fifties now and champions was one of my first games I played long term through my school years along with Runequest and D&D. I look back to that childhood campaign with much affection, such early scenarios as Viper's Nest remain very much in my consciousness. I played all the way through 4th edition and then came back to the game during 5th edition for a while. My current group however (of about 10 years now) where always much more into fantasy and science fiction games than supers, as none of them were comic readers. However over the last ten years…

Just because I finish a writing project doesn't mean I stop thinking about the ideas. I published Shared Origins: The Dynatron (available through the HERO Store) last year. Recently, though, I thought of a new hero whom I thought would work well as a character who gained his powers through the Dynatron and its supervillain inventor, Red Giant. So I wrote him up for my campaign. Then I thought, why not polish him up and share him with the forum? So here's the Gladiator, who got his powers because he made a wish and had it answered in an unusual way. I hope you like him. Dean Shomshak EDIT: Hyper-Man and Pinecone kindly brought some errors to my attention. Thank…

Simply as the question asks. Well, maybe a few more information. Western Champions would be a low powered Champions campaign set in the Western Hero setting. A bit more wierd wierd west then wild wild west. Generally speaking western comics with a superhero gimmick (the original non-supernatural Ghost Rider, Bat Lash, Johna Hex, Firehair, Two Gun Kid, etc.etc.etc.).

A couple of years ago, I started reexploring Third Edition Champions. It's the version I first learned, way back in the fall of 1986. But my favorite iteration of Champions has always been 4th Edition, a/k/a/ the Big Blue Book (BBB). So I have recently begun a 4th Ed building challenge. I'm building 250-point characters with the following guidelines: Do the Disads first. No stats, Powers, Skills, or anything else until the Disads are done. No more than 50 points in any Disad category (BBB allows up to 75). After the Disads, spend at least 10 points on noncombat Skills, Talents, Perks, etc. Build as normal after that. T…

[Moving thread here from Star Hero forum, since it pertains to more of a "superheroic" game level.] I'm curious -- how does your table handle the "vehicles for vehicles/bases" rules when designing bases or vehicles? Some thoughts... At one end of the spectrum, "The Ultimate Vehicle" includes an example of an elevator on p. 167 as a vehicle. This seems unnecessary to me: surely an elevator or a turbolift can be considered "everyvehicle/everybase" equipment? As a more central position, that same book describes defining missiles as vehicles, and gives examples of various types of munitions-as-vehicles on pp 130-133. These would in turn be carried by a lar…

This was a character I created for SuperMegaTopia, but didn't wind up using much, if at all... She shares an SFX with Mighty Yak, in that she builds up a progressive immunity over time to stress in her environment... The character speaks in Valley Girl, so I named her most prominent ability the Power of Interminable Elocution... She literally has the power to TALK FOREVER... She has also developed superhuman capability with anything related to or involved with speech... I have started to wonder what the character would look like in 6th edition... She has spit ball bearings at people for damage, exploded a vending machine by blowing into the coin slot when…

The rules for using Multiple Power attacks brings up Power Frame Works, but not Ultra Slots. That may be enough to say they are not allowed or vague enough to say maybe. My friends in a recent game at first said yes. I have a Mulipower with among other things a zero range EB and Telekinesis. Both are Ultra slots. At the time when I wanted to use this EB "hand attack" with the TK punch, the GM was okay with it. Later I was told absolutely no. I tried to say that it was in the rules but still No. I just went with it. I'm not a rules lawyer. It does make sense that Ultra Slot powers can't be used because it says you must have enough points to pay…

I'm having the hardest time wrapping my head around this, but I can't for the life of me imagine what a Champions campaign looks like in action. I'm coming from D&D 5e where there's a clear path, clear maps, there's a dungeon and if not, at least the party sticks together... But I can't see this working with super heroes. Maybe the clear path part works, but clear maps ? I don't know, of lairs, maybe, but clearly not as much as in D&D, modern cities are much harder to map out... Also, the secret identity stuff really messes with my ability to visualize a "party" of super heroes. So far, I'm imagining it more like a west marshes game, where peop…

At various times I've mentioned here that, since the official Champions Universe is a hobby of mine, I found myself becoming a sort of unofficial "lore-master" to the Champions Online player community, answering their questions on the game's forums about elements of the setting. That has sometimes prompted me to compile information on particular topics for their easy reference. Occasionally I've transcribed some of that info here for our tabletop gaming community when I thought it might be of general interest, and that has been received positively. The Champions Universe, being inspired by the major mainstream comics companies, embraces the full range of class…

I think this will be something of a long-shot but I'll ask anyway. I started playing Champions in junior high around 1981. Around 87/88 the town I lived in hosted a small gaming convention. I volunteered to run the Champions tournament. The tourney module that was provided was a pretty interesting distopian future module - lighter on combat, but heavy on role-play/moral dilemma. At the time, I didn't realize that it was normally a pretty shrewd idea to hang onto those modules, so I didn't. Years later, I figured out that the module was a sequel to WotV. I would really like to get hold of this module again. I don't really care if it's a copy or a pdf - not looking …

I don't think I ever knew this: can you have more than one move connected to a martial maneuver? Like, let's say I have Martial Strike and Offensive Strike. Can I say that Martial Strike could be a snap kick or a snap punch, and that the Offensive Strike is both a roundhouse punch and a roundhouse kick? Or is it more appropriate to buy the maneuver twice? (i.e. in this example I would have to buy Offensive Strike twice and Martial Strike twice.) I can see the justification for buying twice: your arms are Entangled so you just say, "Well, my Offensive Strike is a kick then" etc. Seems like a cheat. Thoughts? Comments?

Twin powers ideas 1 2

Looking for ideas for twin powers (not literally twins, just a 2-person team) that are co-dependent/complementary. Fire/Ice Light/Dark etc. Or prehaps, rather than cancelling/opposite, they multiply. ? Outside-the-box ideas welcome too. Cloak/Dagger etc. The bigger picture: one of them is dead. I'm actually looking for a cool concept (roleplaying-wise) for *half* a team.

Is there a place in Champions lore that is an analog for either K'un-Lun or Shangri-La?

As the question. I'm assuming, two foci, one the the tracker, one the scanner that allows you to find it. Tracker has image(radio waves, limited to a single frequency, bought to the range you want), perhaps a limited battery life. The other, enhanced senses(radio, limited to only the frequency of the tracker).
