A few months ago, I got the "Last Dominion - Echoes of Glory" book (PDF) from the HERO Store, and I really liked the setting, magic system, etc. It also contained references to a couple of other books for the setting "River's End" and "The Night of Fire" which were intended (according to the text) to refine the setting and launch the campaign. Unfortunately, I have been completely unable to locate either of those texts, and it looks like the company (Pencil Pushers Publishing) appears to have gone out of business (web site is no longer valid, etc., etc.). Since the HERO community is fairly tight-knit, I was wondering if anyone knew the authors or whether any…

What does the Hero Designer Fantasy Hero 6th Edition Character Pack contain? I'm expecting to be able to select races and classes through Hero Designer once purchased and installed. Is that about right?

I'm currently running a Fantasy Hero campaign and I wanted the weapon choices to have an impact on fighting style for the characters. I thought Pillars of Eternity did a fantastic job with this and wanted something similarly cool for my HERO game. So far I have: 1- Two-Handed weapon wielders can Multiple Attack two enemies in reach in a big sweeping attack, but not the same opponent multiple times due to their size and weight. 2- Dual Wielders can Multiple Attack the same enemy twice, but not hit separate opponents. I'm not completely happy with the way this one feels. 3- One-Handed weapon wielders that leave one hand empty can do weapon d…

So, I am steadily working through the art pieces on my Multi-system race book. art is going very smoothly (I will have something to show in the other thread, soon,) Well I went through some of the written material, and while the writing of my collaborators is very good. Looking back at my own, well, after a year away from looking at it, my is it awful. Why use 5 words when 20 will do, seemed to have been my guiding principle back then. I winced reading it. So, knowing that this board is full of some very strong opinions, I decided to ask here. What Fantasy Race materials for HERO, or any other system, do you feel were well written? How much, or how litt…

And I couldn't help but notice how much of the PDF material was written by Greg Ewans. I was intrigued by the Wondrous Treasure compilations--- has anyone read any of his material? Is it worthwhile stuff, or just random stuff? What I'm worried about-- and forgive me; I do _not_ wish this to sound as offensive as I think it might-- but what I'm worried about is finding out it's all a bunch of Steve Long type stuff: thirty new sets of special effects for killing things. That kind of stuff.

Just purchased Fantasy Hero Complete and I've spotted a few errors while reading through. Is there an errata file?

I often ask some sort of Harry Potter magic question, but usually don't get much in the way of interest. So this time I'm starting a separate forum in the hopes that maybe some of you might find it work investigating. I just saw The Order of the Phoenix a little bit ago, and I am always giddy about the wizard battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort. It's totally cool, and totally free-form, and pretty much unlike what the kids are taught in school, even by the time they graduate in the final episode. So my question is this: how might the magic system be set up in Fantasy HERO, and how do they get from simple school-level magic to high level wizard stuff? The…

A good while ago I had an idea for a Harn article called "Haldana Row" that covered three houses and their inhabitants in the city of Tashal. It grew into five houses as a shared project with another writer and is now complete and available as a free download on Lythia.com. HALDANA ROW My sections are Gevel & Clodya's House, Aethel Atan's House, and Elendsa House. Gevel, Clodya, and Aethel are my long-time "iconic" fantasy characters. I reworked these as "playable versions" that could be grounded in a place. The other two dwellings, as well as the maps, are by Matt Roegner. The art is by Richard Luschek, who does a…

"How to make everything" is a youtube channel. The goal is to make stuff from scratch. It started 3 years ago, with him making a modern sandwitch. It only cost 1500 Dollar and took 6 months. Most of the cost was getting the salt and most of the time is waiting for the plants to grow. He touches a lot of everyday objects: Soap. Paper/Papyrus/Pergament. Refrigation by cutting ice. Of wich most would be classical adventuring gear. He even recently started a sub-series on "making weapons". Indeed "casting a Bronze Sword" just came out yesterday. I thought this might be a interesting resource for GM's. If you ever need to figure out how a smithy …

So I'm running a few games at GenCon in 2019. I'm basing all my games off a sense of nostalgia. I'm converting a bunch of different games into Hero. My first game is going to be a Gary Gygax AD&D module. I'm not sure yet, but one/two of the GDQ series (Against the Giants, the Drow, and Queen of the Demonweb Pits). My second game is going to be a ShadowRun adventure. My third game is going to be a DragonLance module (maybe DL1 or DL2). My fourth game is going to be a City of Heroes Task Force (not sure which one yet, but I'm looking). My fifth game is going to be on of the classic Hero System adventures, maybe even with the C…

D&D Beyond Like Tool for Hero Games or something like the Beyond Tool Is there an online website/service that provides something like the Online Character Tools with mouse hover links to more details about the object under the mouse. I've been using the D&D Beyond tool for the last year and my players really like the tool. Is there something similar to that for players and GM's in the Champions/Heroes rules set? It doesn't have to be an all inclusive tool but I'd definitely like something for the following: Online Character Sheet Campaign Notes Rules lookup or maybe a place to store and access PDF's. Bonus Po…

Greetings Fellows, I'm an old school 4th/5th edition player who left for a decade and I'm returning and I have convinced my 5th Edition D&D players to try out the Hero Mechanics. I'm looking for the following: 1) A 6th edition Form Fillable PDF tailored for Fantasy Hero Character Sheet 2) DM Screen in both Portrait and Horizontal mode. In addition I'm attempting to take the taxonomy from D&D 5th edition and translate it as closely as possible to Hero 6th edition mechanics. My goal is that a D&D player could walk into my group and be handed a character sheet with D&D terms and feel comfortable. For exampl…

I have a D&D campagin that I am actually working to convert over into Fantasy Hero.... obviously not EVERYTHING translates well, nor are we trying. However in looking through the Bestiary I didnt spot anything that looks even approximate to the classic owlbear. As this is a common creature in the region the players adventure I would like to keep them in the transfer. Has anyone done workups or found comparables in the bestiary? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone run, or play in, games where ambient mana levels make a difference to spellcasting? I'm curious as to how you do it. I wrote something up a long time ago on the subject, and if I can find it I'll post it somewhere. I'd like to see what other people do. Edit to add: I found it at archive.org; it's pretty embarrassingly bad, so I'm not actually going to post it anywhere.

I wrote this a few years ago. As far as I recall, I've never posted it anywhere. Until now. With the Ultimate Skill coming, and all the buzz on the board about skills now, I thought I'd go ahead and post it. By the way, I remember writing more than this, and I did intend to go on and expand the idea to the other adventuring archetypes. Who knows, maybe I'll finally do so. And if I turn up the "lost materiels" that I suspect are still hidden in my stuff in storage, I'll post them too. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary wonders if we'll be able to fit the whole thing in this next post....

I've been knocking some ideas around for a new character that use techniques that begin or end with an attack. I've been using Divinity: Original Sin 2, Dark Souls, Sword Art Online, and some other things as inspiration, but I'm not experienced enough with the system to properly replicate my mental images. Here's what I'm thinking of: D:OS2 Scoundrel Skill Backlash: teleport behind a target and execute an attack with your weapon. "Vanishing Blade": after successfully executing an attack, turn invisible until you attack again. "Exploding Edge": imbue your weapon with explosive power that releases upon impact. "Lethal Dance": make an attack against each …

In the Turakian Age, everybody hates the Ulronai. It's a rule. If you have a group of people everyone hates, there will surely be jokes about them. I'd like to hear suggestions for Ulronai jokes. I'll start. Q: How many Ulronai does it take to light a candle? A: Why would they light a candle when they can sneak up on you in the dark? Q: Why did the evil wizard hire a bunch of Ulronai mercenaries? A: There are some things that Orcs just won't do. Q: Why did the baron hire all the Ulronai males in his realm to tend his flock of sheep? A; Hey, if they're flocking with the sheep they're not flocking their own women and making more Ulron…

Yeah, I know; I know. I'm the only here who didn't have it all ready. To be fair, I had the PDF download available the day I ordered, but I'd rather thumb a book.. It's just me, I guess. I'd been following the tracking, and the day it was due, I was so hungry with anticipation that I spent all day in eyeshot of the mailbox: cutting grass (but only on that side of the house :D), ripping vines, tuning the bikes and doing some routine maintenance on the Leviathan. (Don't know why; at 460,000 miles, she needs a donor more than a she needs a set of plugs and a cabin air filter). The day dragged on. No postman. The kids menti…

I've got a player interested in, "like, maybe, warging?", and so I ask: How would you build that in Hero? Buying your special animal friends as followers and then buy limited mind control? Multiform with "leaves human body behind when assuming other forms"? I did a quick search of the forums and warg\warging\skinchanging didn't seem to come up besides in reference to large wolves. How would you write up an ability to mentally possess animals while leaving your physical body behind?

Hello folks, After a long absence here because of a serious medical emergency, and a very looooooong hospital stay, I am back. This same emergency, somewhat resolved, has forcibly retired me, giving me a lot of free time. In that free time I have been with a group on Roll20.net happily playing games on weekends. Discussions with a friend, and a few players, motivated me, to take the remains fo a failed comic idea from a few years ago, and use the ideas for a Fantasy Race. So I floated the idea to the other players, and managed to make them work in Pathfinder (1), and and D&D5e. The results worked better than expected and they became an appeali…

Hello, How would one go about creating a spell that will run for a set length of time, then cease? Example: A glamour spell that makes someone look beautiful, or a love potion, or even a shielding spell Thanks!

I cannot recount the last time I fired up my HERO brain and counted body... since the 5er days... Father, it's been 15 years since my last HERO session... Tonight I introduced my regular Sunday group to HERO 6e! We are starting with the Fantasy Complete for a handful of sessions (using the pre-gens and adventure/setting from FHC). After a few sessions we will create new characters and adventure for a few more sessions! Eventually, we are shifting to a sci-fi setting of my own creation for (what I intend/hope) will be a long-term campaign. I wanted us to get familiar before we jumped right in. I was touching up the characters to give t…

How would you build a spell that creates a damage shield that shatters weapons? Or if not damage shield an alternative method. What limitation would you set for a linked Force Field\Armor that only protects against weapons hitting the shield spell? For fun let's say that it doesn't work against ranged\thrown weapons as they still impart their kinetic energy in to the target even while shattered. Never mind the slight logical inconsistency there, it's magic! Damage Shield, only vs Foci, linked FF with "only vs weapons what shatter"? How would you price it?
