Howdy folks! I've been anxious to share this news with you until I had more than just promises to share. I am developing the Hero System for FoundryVTT, under license with Hero Games, and I am just wrapping up on the foundation before moving into automation. My goal is to keep this as simple as possible, focus on automating the things that have greatest impact (e.g., using/tracking END), and allow others to build on it. Hero for Foundry will take 2 forms: Hero 6E Basic will be a FREE ($0) system for FoundryVTT that will only include content from the Hero System 6E Basic Rulebook. You will be able to add skills, maneuvers, talents, pow…

Currently I am running a game online and we are using Epic Table which has mostly meet our needs. It is a bit clunky and has a single developer maintaining it. I have been looking at a wide variety of other VTTs to use. I have looked at all the big names - Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Maptools, etc. A while ago I found Tabletop Simulator on Steam. I was fascinated with the possibility of 3D rendered terrain and figures, shared sound (effects and music), and what seemed to be a big community working on free assets. I didn't buy it because I didn't want to spend the $20 on an experiment. Now it is on sale and I picked up a license. A quick list of …

As we approaching the release of the Mod I thought breaking off a new topic focused on the Mod itself would be wise. Here is an update on the current benefits of the Hero System Mod for Tabletop Simulator. Import from Hero Designer Onscreen Combat Record with sections for: - Primary and Secondary stats Movement types Distance/range finder Ability to alter stats Skills list Maneuvers/ Martial arts list Locational hits Quick dice roller Custom Dice Roll list with roll editor. Where possible all of the above allow the "Click to roll" Dice rolls and modifiers for: - Stat rolls Sk…

There have been a few threads talking about using Roll20 to play Hero games. It is a lot of work to get things looking decent. I have created a sandbox over on Roll20. I will make anyone who joins a GM so that we can all work on generating resources that we can bring back here to share. :-) If you want to go look at the sandbox I have been playing with, you would be more than welcome. You can join the sandbox at https://app.roll20.net/join/1628298/KcEqwA and I will give you GM rights so that you can look at the guts of everything. Doc

Hello everyone, I’d like to announce the availability of a new Hero System character sheet for Roll20 intended for heroic-level campaigns. “Hero System 6e Heroic” is available alongside Darren’s “Hero System 6e” in Roll20’s game options. This is an entirely new character sheet that uses no code from the earlier sheet. HS6e Heroic has a different design philosophy motivated by the needs of heroic settings such as Fantasy Hero and Star Hero. Over the last year or so I worked on a Star Hero campaign, but felt stymied because the existing character sheet was inappropriate for the setting. Eventually I decided I would either have to drop the idea or lea…

So, thanks to Corvid, my group will be meeting online from now on. So I need a decent program to run combats online. Mostly I want some thing easy to use and learn, preferably free. It doesn't have to be fancy, just have a map an figs. I have the tts app for Hero and it is incredible, but none of my players have tts and I think learning it will be more time intensive than I can/they will spare.

There’s a new Roll20 project in the works with a Q4 2022 targeted release. The Champions Complete Bundle will include a combined Compendium of Champions Complete and Champions Begins, plus the Champions Begins tutorial adventure and an additional set of maps and tokens. If you’re unfamiliar with Roll20 Compendiums, they provide simple rules and content access with filtering and search capabilities. Additionally, Compendiums allow users to drag and drop character tokens directly into maps and access their character sheets. For example, a GM could drop a villain into a map and access the villain’s character sheet in seconds. The Compendium will use the currently…

For folks looking for an alternative to maps and miniatures for there super hero RPG battles, have a look at what I have been putting together. The following are screen shots of an app that takes the headless version of City Of Heroes, called Icon, and extends it with some functionality to manage fully animated an interactive miniatures on a 3d desktop. After a couple of months of toil, thought I would show what is starting to be some pretty cool features to extend Icon for machima, role playing games, etc... Application places a tabletop widget to the side of the desktop the character explorer allows creating nested crowds of characters that can be linked, …

Up until a few years ago, the Hero Games website hosted a wide variety of book excerpts, supplements, and game aids for free download. However, with the most recent website upgrade, most of those items were considered not resource cost-effective to maintain, and were discarded. As a result most new Hero gamers are unaware they ever existed; and even some of the veterans may have missed the treasures they contained, or have since lost something from the collection they once had. However, thanks to the magnificent Internet Archive Wayback Machine, virtually all those items are still obtainable if one knows where to look and what to look for. But since many peopl…

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice. I'm an experienced Hero gamer going back to the 80's and lookin to launch a pulp campaign online game with my friends scattered across North America. I'm looking for an online experience that can: provide an online chat with audio and video capability ability to share maps and layouts, I would be uploading PDFs... fog of war would be really nice lol tokens or character pictures, also that I can upload, to allow the players to move their characters on the map share content such as player handouts and character sheets What I don't really need: dice roller - I can use one online or use the Hero …

We were able to get a lot accomplished this week for the Champions Begins GM Book & Adventure. We completed editing of Chapters 1 through 4, and added the content to the Roll20 Adventure that'll be included in the bundle. The work done this week concentrated on editing and proofreading the adventure, and formatting it for Roll20. It's just the copy text and art for now. The maps, characters, and tokens are planned for after the text content for the adventure is complete. The plan for next week is to complete Chapter 5 by editing and formatting for Roll20 (making sure all the headers are consistent, another proofreading pass and such). Then doing a final e…

I recently came across an article for an AI-created art program called Midjourney and wondered if anyone on here had ever used it. The online art that it generated was pretty impressive.

Hi all, Question: Could someone please provide me a link to either a video or online article showing how one, after subscribing to Roll20 for $$$, sets up a Roll20 game to have HERO support, add hexes, etc? I'm looking for a one stop shop rather than watching/reading several sources and having to collate knowledge. Basically, a Primer before I dive into 50 volumes of encyclopedias, or the equivalent. Thanks in advance!!! Background: I once played one session of Champions in Roll20 with a GM who must have had the right subscription package because the HERO character sheets were in his game …

I am a contributor to the Maptool project. If you are unfamiliar with Maptool its a open source, totally free virtual table top (VTT) application. Its is probably the longest running VTT project, has more functionality than any other and is still growing. What it is definitely NOT is the nicest looking or easiest to use ? We like to refer to it as the Millennium Falcon of VTTs as it might not look like much but she's got it where it counts kid. Anyway, I am hoping to run a hero system campaign in the not to distant future and am in the process of trying to improve some of the hex based features (such as drawing tools and area effect templates) but was wonderi…

Hi there everyone. I've been working on a module for playing 6e Hero in Foundry for a bit now, and it's finally ready enough, I feel, to be used publicly. I've submitted it for approval to Foundry itself, but in the meantime, I've made the repository containing it public and if you're interested, you can check it out here: https://github.com/jared-l-vine/hero6e-foundryvtt Fair warning, it's pretty feature-light at the moment. There's a lot more I want to do with it, but it's taken some time getting these basics up and running and learning how you even develop a Foundry module in the first place. Feel free to take a look and submit and bugs you come…

I am trying to launch a "Play-by-Post" HERO 5th Pulp game and need a site where my players/I can share maps, discuss "In Character" and "Out-Of-Character" topics, roll dice, essentially game in an asynchronous fashion. Just to be clear, I do not need a VTT... I attempted to use "World Anvil" but everything there makes me feel like I spend FAR more time fighting their overly convoluted interface than creating my game content. At one point, I attempted to generate a link to join my campaign that sent my player to a TOTALLY different campaign! Argh!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for a low cost place to host a "Play-by-Post" HERO 5th game? …

I have a simple question for those of you who use Fantasy Grounds. I am looking for a program that will allow me to display information on a second display at the game table. I have been experimenting with pictures, maps and sound at the table. I am not interested in remote gaming. I just want to know if I can show information on a second monitor utilizing "fog of war" reveal settings with Fantasy Grounds. Roll20 can, but is very clunky. Realm Works was supposed to do this, but they have pretty much become Pathfinder Works. So I am looking at Fantasy Grounds since they seem to actually support (as in FG content) other genres including modern, horror …

I'm slowly working on creating some html templates using paged.js as a parser. Will allow for easier PDF creation with actual page breaks, page numbers, headers etc. I'm going to try and comment the files well enough as well so they of anyone wants to do any changes, or uses it as a based for other sheets may as well and not get lost. Attached is a few pages I did, all html. Yeah I know it needs work but wanted to make sure the script worked in Firefox, Edge and Chrome.

I'm still determining where I'm going with this post, but I've been diving into the HSM code again, fixing some bugs, and it has me reflecting on the app itself. The app is coming up on its 5th anniversary, which is cool. Five years is a long time in development years, though, and a lot has changed in the React Native (React Native is a mobile app development framework, which HSM is built on) world in that time. Things continue to change in that world rapidly. When I built the app, I followed the suggested best practices at the time, which were then replaced by different best practices. Time has gone by, and I have built a few apps in that time…

I recently started running a Hero campaign for the first time in maybe 20 years. I picked up the 6e books, Hero Designer and Hero Combat Manager. But... I find HCM hard to use. I get that it does a lot but it requires a lot of clicks for every action and doesn't automate things like actually determining if an attack hits. This makes it very hard to use to simulate combat, like testing in advance if the party's opponents are too powerful or too weak. So I decided to try my hand at this and would like to get feedback on it. I've created a proof-of-concept here: https://deity-online.com/app/combat-tool To try it out: …

I am to the point on my Roll20 character import for 6e that I would like some alpha testers. If you are interested, send me a PM. To be able to help you need to: 1. Own Hero Designer. 2. Have a PRO subscription to Roll20. 3. Use the HS6e character sheet in your Roll20 campaign. At this point I have the basic characteristics along with running, swimming and horizontal leap, continuing to work on other things. Skills are probably up next. - E

Back in the 90's, when my group would play the game where ever we could, it was tough to roll 12 to 15d6 on a McDonald's table. I came to the rescue with a little program called Diceroll.exe (at least I think that was the one). It printed a chart on an 8.5 x 11 sheet that had a percentile to roll instead of the die sixes. It listed Body and Stun for 1d6 for I think up to 30d6. I still have the program, but I need a computer with DOS. I don't have one and even if I did, I'm not sure it would connect to a USB printer. (Serial Ports and all) Players would probably find Hero Systems Mobile. From that they can just tap the button on the screen. Yet. No…
