The Corsican Brothers, or Tomax and Xamot, the Crimson Guard commanders. One gets hit and feels nothing, while the other takes the damage. How would you do that? Richard

Danger sense "Only vs sentient beings" "Only vs danger intentionally directed at character" So, if you zero in on the character with a sniper rifle... buzzzzz If there's a bomb under your seat in a movie theatre... nothing. If you knock a building over to kill him... buzzzz If you knock a build over to kill the guy standing next to him... nothing. If there's a cave-in... nothing If you cause a cave in to hurt him... buzzz That sort of thing. I was only valuing it at -1/2, but it might be worth more than that. Whatcha think?

Hiya! I'd like input on the following scenario: I have a PC who has electrical powers which draw Endurance from a fairly massive END Reserve. He wants to take a side effect -- a major side effect. Basically, it goes like this: if his electrical Multipower is dispelled, he releases all the remaining Endurance in his END Reserve in an explosion. Yes, yes, I know it sounds a little twinky, but in the context of the character, it makes sense. Here's how I was thinking of building it: Side Effect - extreme -1, affects character and environment -1/4, side effect always occurs when a specific act is performed +1/4 Now, here's my problem...the guy's …

Anyone out there ever written up Marvel's thug professor extrodinaire? I did one eons ago but nolonger care for it. ( I gave him all the martial arts maneuvers in the UMA). If you have done him or a similar character what did you use to simulate his ability to do what anyone else does?

As someone with a large collection of Champs 4th Ed. books, I thought I'd ask: In your opinion, which 4th Ed. books have the greatest usefulness in 5th Ed. play? A couple that occur immediately to me would be Normals Unbound (one of the best supplements done during I.C.E.'s oversight), and The Mutant File (since the standard hero has been upgraded to 350 pts, some use can now be made of the preposterously high-powered villains in that book). Whatcha think?

Hero or M&M? 1 2

Hi to everybody! First of all, this is not meant as flame bait. I'm genuinely interested in having people's opinions on the decision I'm about to take. I have bought all 3 major superheroes games out there (Hero, SAS and M&M) and want to decide which one to start GMing. I plan on buying pretty much all supplements for the three lines, money is not (luckily) an issue here. I've narrowed down the choice between Hero and M&M. But I really can't decide between the two. Since I inquired on Green Ronin's forum I thought... why not here? I already bought Hero Designer, if that could help explaining your reasoning. Thanks to everybody for their input.

Hello world. I am glad that 5th edition has been released, as I have been playing since the first edition. However I cannot tell by the catalog entries whether or not I need to buy both the Hero System and Champions books or is Champions enough? Anyone? Thanks. -================================================- Three Systems for Steve Jackson under the sky, Seven for White Wolf in their halls of stone, Nine for the alternative publishers doomed to die, One for TSR on his dark throne In the Land of Wizards of the Coast where the money lie. One System to rule them all, One System to find them, One System to bring them all and in the darkness…

Has anyone ever used the ranged MA maneuvers rules to make a martial arts package for energy projectors? Care to share?

A character in my campaign is making a Ghostlike character. So far so good, but he wants to have a powerless item, that if it gets destroyed, he "dies". I type "dies", because he basically loses the character (cant play with it anymore) if the item gets destroyed. How would you do this? At first I thought about using a foci, but then again he doesnt want any powers in it, (he wants to be able to get it taken away, though not forever because that could be dangerous ). So I thought about using a Physical Limitation. but that would give a mere 15 points (unfrequently, total). So he doesnt want that because he could get more points from using a susceptbibility, and lo…

Does anyone have a problem letting players create characters who are mega-intelligent? I have a friend who wants to play this super-intelligent Sherlock Holmes/Buckaroo Bonzi type character in our game. I was wondering how would other GMs handle a character like this in their campaign? The main focus of a character like this would be logic solving and accurate deductive leaps of logic. How would a GM handle a player that could careless about combat and the character is infact almost designed to be knocked-out in any combative engagment? Now what the player wants out of the game is the ability to make the scenario flow around them or even change the course now and then.

What is the nearest correctional facility to Millenium City that would house normal criminals? Would most agents be sent there (such as Viper or Demon)?

This may be sort of an HD questions, but it begins with just building the power. I'm trying to build the Shockwave brick power from the sidebar on page 69 of the Champions book. At first I thought that I should use naked modifier, but when I did I couldn't figure out how the book came up with the points that they did. Can someone help me out, and tell me the steps that I need to go through to do this?

Just an alert for the DH subscribers -- the Shades Of Black playtest document is now available, complete with maps! This is our first scenario playtested, so the process is a bit different than normal. Please read the introductory instructions carefully, and e-mail me if you have any questions. In particular, we're hoping to get a lot of people to actually playtest the adventure -- run it in their own campaigns, or as an impromptu one-shot campaign. That's more helpful for adventure products than any other type of book. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I just got CU and found an error on Page 132, the part where they describe the solar system and the various races/galaxies around us. The map is ok, but the text is not in sink with the page before or after. In fact it is areprint of page 128. So is there an errata site? If not, can anyone post what is on said page? to be specific the missing part runs from: "At first, it was believed that the aliens were in fact native to Mars." to: "...without incident, but on a few occasions a Hzeel scout has lost control of his ship and crashed." Thanks for your help. Jerome

Hi to all, I am new to these boards and new to HERO as I just got it about three weeks ago and I am so glad to be done with that 'other' game I spent so much time playing. Ok, after practically reading the book a time or two, some things I totally understand, and some things I don't. The things I don't really understand come from the fact that there seems to be multiple ways to handle it, and I want to get it right for the right feel. Plus, these characters I am making just to get used to the system. One character is somebody I am basing from the Guyver movies (if you have seen them, you know what I mean). The guy is basically normal except for the times he h…

Over the years I've made a lot of really great friends through roleplaying games and through champions in particular. Many of the best friends I've had through college still live in the area and still look forward to the occasional game. So when I send out an announcement that I'm going to start running say, my new X-Force / X-Men universe based champions campaign there are about twelve people on the local list. And most of these want to play. Here are some tricks I've learned to keep the games moving, everyone heavily involved, keep the work load lower for me even when running for a huge group. Step One - Big Crowds Require Advanced Prep. To run for…

I live in a very isolated area (Northern Canada). We have a very good FLGS (anyone who can get a copy of Hero 5 to me when no one else in town plays it is good). But when I get a chance to get out of town I go to a game store there if possible. Later this month I am getting out of town, Europe. Specifically I am going to London, England Brussels, Belguim Amsterdam, Holland Hopefully I will get at…

I am here to make a humble request for help with a character. First let me provide some needed background and parameters. One of my regular players is going to GM a Martial Arts campaign. This is his first shot at GM'ing. He wants us to play "realistic" characters, meaning we are at the "Competent Normal" level (50 points / 50 points of Disadvantages). I do not have any experience at this power level; I am used to building Super Heroes, so I don't want to waste any points. For those of you with a conscience about such things, let me make a couple of points clear: A) I am not trying to create an unstoppable killing machine, I want to have a character …

In the spirit of a previous thread that asked what organisations you used in your games, what villain teams do you use. I don't want the ones out of the books (and I have been playing since first edition so I have seen most of them). I want the ones that you made up even if it uses some of the published villains. EI your curveball to those heroes who have the books also.

How many people see supervillains and perhaps even organization-sponsored types taking over in the less developed or stable parts of the world? Of course as I observed in another thread, there is the fact that a super cannot singly overthrow and conquer a nation, they can raise forces, launch a coup. And supers have certain advantages in raising such forces, mentalists especailly. The proposition of native superheroes preventing such a thing from happening may not necessarily be the case in situations where the existing government is exceedingly corrupt? What about a superhero seeking to overthrow the government and establish a fair and just administration. …
