This reminds me of something I have been giving a lot of thought about lately. Namely, the rarity (or lack thereof) of unusual defenses. In my current game group, at least half of us have been playing Champions since the 1980s. As such, we have developed certain routines when we GM that, on the face of them, make perfect sense. For example, the fellow who mainly runs Viper gives all of the Viper agents enhanced senses which can see through their own (quite effective) Darkness grenades. For myself, I tend to give just about any supernatural villian both Power Defense and Mental Defense. Similarly, I think we have all developed the habit of giving any technological vil…

It's December 24th, 10pm. This year's hot toy has been the "Spaceman Steve Atomic Adventurer", an action figure with a little gun that produces a cool but harmless noise and light show. As you go through the documents seized from the evil Black Harlequin you discover among the plans for building various other dangerous devices, that he has created a malicious version of Spaceman Steve with a real working weapon and inserted it into randomly selected "Spaceman Steve" packages. All over America (and perhaps the world) 1 in every 100 children who received this toy in a few hours will unleashe mayhem and perhaps even death on their own household. How do you stop t…

Death from Above (DFA) has a 25 STR and 15 points in Leaping (15") DFA leaps 20" laterally (his full leap) and targets Big Bad Evil Guy (BBEG). Now, does he make 2 attack rolls or one? Without accurate power modifier, does DFA have to: 1) target hex (DCV 3, -6 OCV for range) 2) make move through attack roll on BBEG at -V/5 => -20"/5 = -4 OCV? Or because the BBEG is in his target hex does he only need to make one attack roll (the one to resolve the Move Through against BBEG)? Oh and happy holidays everyone! Cheers.

I downloaded the UNTIL: Superpowers Database II and found an interesting power for a speedster on page 54 entitled "Can't Hit Me." The power is based on desolidification with the limitation that it only protects against damage (and a few others). I apologize if this is a stupid question, but since desolid characters can't affect the physical world without buying powers that have the advantage "Affects Physical World," does that mean the character cannot use "Can't Hit Me" along with any attacks that phase?

Ok--situation--60 Str Brick, tossing someone with 5 levels of shrinking, 30" of flight, and a 15 STR. The tossee starts shrunk, the tosser has a running throw a casual estimation has the brick using an effective 105 Strength for distance he can throw him. I'm without book right now, but the velocity is in the 80" to 100" range, IIRC. the fastbal special hits, and just at the moment of impact, the shrinking character turns off shrinking. According the the rules on fastball, he's supposed to drop the the ground right there--but its the moment of impact. Using the low niumber, 80, the shrinkers strength, and growth damage, this would be a 27.5d6 move by,( …

Here's a question I've been meaning to ask for some time. In issue #100 of Firestorm The Nuclear Man comic (think it was the early 90's), Firestorm fought the megalithic Brimstone literally upon the surface of the sun. My question is a simple one: What, in Champions terms, do you think a character would need to function on (or even inside) the sun, or any other star for that matter? Somehow, I don't think simple Life-Support: Immunity To Intense Heat would quite do the trick. Any takers?

WACO - because I'm Special

I kinda want to see some feedback on this guy, but suspect the sheer size doomed him before. So, piecemeal, we have... WACO WACO - World Authority Conspiracy Organisation Alastair Heartwood was a true believer for conspiracy theories. Ever since his first brush with government taxation, he was convinced that any tale that cast shadows on 'them bastards' must... well... be true. No matter the theory, no matter what evidence there was... he believed it, and pasted his beliefs together with an insistence that a mysterious government agency called the "WACO" (coincidently the name of a rival of his Texan home town) was responsible for coverups. Evidence? Plante…

Hello Heroes! What miniatures do you use in your campaign? How big is your hex map or do you use squared maps? I would appreciate your help and input into this matter. Thanks

I've got someone whose primary ability is their invisibility. I'm trying to find a nice emblem for their uniform. Thing is, invisibility doesn't so much lend itself to symbols. I'm still working on the secondary powers, though I think those will likely involve suggestive abilities. (I'm thinking the character plants suggestions by whispering into their ear while invisible). I briefly used a question mark and then decided that was already covered by some notable published supers. I don't have a name yet. I've only asssigned a temporary code name (so I can find the character in Hero Designer again) of Whisper.

Theme music 1 2

Greetings Heroes! I was wondering. Does anyone use theme music to set the mood of the game? I ran a campaign a year or so ago and to begin the session I played the theme to the X-Men animated series. I pointed to each player and asked for a heroic pose. It got everyone into the mindset of there character. I hope to be playing again soon and was wondering what music (if any) you folks used? It can be anything. I just would like your suggestions. Thanks!

Just had an idea for our x-champions universe - the people who play the PCs instead playing the "bit characters," the various Followers and NPCs who are part of the extended Justice Squad (the main PC group) "family". Sort of like how you'd see back pages stories with Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane in Superman, or that sort of thing. Anyone else done this? Comments, suggestions? We'd probably have a cast something like: Gere-luce - the eccentric inventor (he puts a self-destruct button on EVERYTHING) who is a menor and old friend to one of the major PC supers Velma - the office assistant/busy-body, a sharp cookie and sort of a Lois Lane type (vaguely), wh…

...well maybe not, just depends on exactly when the heroes arrive and what happens In theory they could stop anything bad but I don't think that's possible now. I alluded to a seriously major event in Von D-Man's Washington nuke thread. Known scenario - Jean Gray (known as Phoenix already, I liked the name better than Marvel Girl so she's always gone by Phoenix) has just disappeared from Professor X' "New School for the Gifted" - along with Rogue. What makes this more troubling is it occurs so close to the attacks of an android who swears to eliminate all mutant life - he's known as Vision (and yes, modelled after a combo of Vision and Mechanon). Currently the …

I've been doing some thinking on all the various Supervilain groups and master villains in the OCU. I was wondering how that could all get along? This is what I've come up with: The Warlord is an arms dealer. When Dr. Destroyer, or groups like VIPER, need weapons they come to him and say "I need 30 Omni-Blasters, 10 Mega-Blasters, 20 Mini-Blasters, 10 Energy Swords, 40 suits of MK VI Power Armor, 10 Suits of MK IV Flexi Armor and 10 suits of MK VIII Battle Armor." So now the Warloard has this HUGE order, sever MILLION dollars worth. What does he do? Well, like any good merchant, HE doesn't do anything. His SUPLIER does. Enter ARGENT. ARGENT i…

Ok, I'm in a bit of a bind. My players have defeated 12 dire wolves (14 feet tall from muzzle to toe) and rendered them deeply unconscious. So, the game wraps up with one of the players calling Animal Control. Now, these creatures have viciously attacked one person (he died before help arrived) and they attacked the party when they encroached on their territory (after one of them told two of the party members to go away and all six of them return suddenly in a tight group). So when Animal Control shows up, what the heck do they do? Option 1: Put down the beasts. The humane way is lethal injection, but these are dire wolves, would using multiple shotgun bla…

These are some preliminary conversions of the charactesr from Reignofevil.com, a supplment for White Wolf's Aberrant game. This character is taken from White Wolf' Aberrant game. More correctly he is from Reignofevil.com, the supplement detailing the "satanist" Church of Astaroth, a group of demented Nova losers that believe they are incarnate demons. The subject matter in these conversion may be objectionable to some and the book itself is reccomended for mature readers. No challenge to white wolf's copyright is intended. This my first conversion so be gentle, but I welcome feed back. It should be noted that this character is described as "weak" in his…

I was wondering what the general consensus is on Hero's "Learning Curve." I've been lurking around this site for a while, and I've played role playing games before, but I've yet to actually run a Hero systems game [congratulations, I just graduated from D20]. I'm reading and rereading the the Core Book, and I think I have the basic concepts down to run a semi-slipshod adventure or two. But how intuitive is the system? How many adventures did YOU run or play before you felt comfortable with what was going on? The players I would be running with aren't familiar with the Hero system either, but I could always direct them to copies of the Sidekick...any opinions?

I want to create a robotic henchman who has a sort of "synaptic disruptor" Ego Attack. The robot is just a robot -- no AI, and thus, no EGO. I looked through the automaton rules and they don't appear to address this (is it addressed elsewhere?). So how would a robot without an ECV attack the mind? Any advice? Tnx! Bill.

Not so much a what would your character do, but whats DOES your character do, specfically for fun? Most of us seem to put alot of thought into our character fighting style, code name, costume, background but what do they do to relax and burn off stress? Whats the guy under the costume like when he lets his hair down?

Well, I am back to playing after many years away. However, I am a but rusty, especially with combat techniques. In addition, I am running an Energy Projector for the first time (previously I tended to play very high Dex MA types). As such, I would appreciate some advice on effective tactics to use in combat from the great minds on the board. My character's power set (force field creation and manipulation EC) includes flight, force field, force wall, TK and EB with +1/2 variable adv (different shaped force rams). Dex and speed are mid to low for the campaign (23 and 5, respectively). So far I have been fairly standard using FF, Flight and EB or TK to blast …

Ok here's the poop. I am trying to convert an old brick of mine to 5thED...I just recently learned of all of the Brick tricks in the Ultimate Brick via my GM who owns the book. I unfortunatly do not. I was wondering if anyone has a brick character with a brick trick mp they could post so I can see how it is built.

Well, they are all painted and the mailing labels are printed out (Finally!) Sorry for the delay, but everything should be in the mail tomorrow, I guess expect it sometime in the next 2 weeks. I'll be sending DelCon numbers to all winners so you can track the packages. As mentioned originally, the prizes are well and truly crap. Well, except for Bill's. As the winner of the first ever contest of this sort here, he gets the much desired GOLDEN FOXBAT!!! Yup, I found a seriously old Foxbat fig and it got a nice 4-5 coats of Incan Gold for Bill. The rest of the winners get Heritage champions miniatures painted in the appropos color (Silver, Bronze, Stone or Clay)…

Alright, you alternate historians, riddle me this: It's become something of a cliche in superheroic universes that with the rise of McCarthyism, all but a few heroes retire and/or drop out of the public eye in some way. So what happens if McCarthy gets discredited right off the bat, whether from some Senator or patriotic super actually having the balls to say "You're a liar, and this isn't how we do things in this country", or pictures of Tailgunner Joe's (and his staff's) private peccadilloes turning up in the scandal rags, or from him being drunk and slamming his car into a tree or something? What would be the effect on the world, both Normal and Super, if t…
