This should come as interesting trivia for those of us who've played supers games... FACT: "When walking across a carpet in a room that is at 20% relative humidity, as much as 35,000 V of electrostatic potential can be generated on the surface of your body. A similar trip in a room at 80% relative humidity generates about 1,500 V of electrostatic potential." (Source: Finnigan LTQ Preinstallation Requirements Guide, p3-5) Anyone remember 'The Remnant' (or whatever his name was) from 'The Tick' cartoon? Hilarious. Build up charge, zap, get overheated, pass out. That's gotta be good for a 1/2D6 EB, Energy, Penetrating. Doesn't it?

I'm working on conversion of character from my home-system to HERO, and I need help with some powers buildup. Berserker Rage is supposed to be one power that gives the character extra defenses and attack power. i.e. You get Damage Resistance, Damage Reduction, Knockback Resistance, Mental Defense and Power Defense, along with +X CSL with attacks. Yes, this is very powerfull- but it also only on when the character is Enraged, in drains END every phase and have Side Effects- you are knocked unconscious after the rage is over. I tryed to built it with a compound power. with little success. Can the powers be Linked together? Idea, anyone?

I'm currently working on converting an AD&D character to Hero System. This character has had a permanent mind blank spell cast on him: the result of which is anyone who tries to read his mind reads only uninteresting or trivial thoughts. I'm trying to figure out how to translate this to Hero terms. I thought about buying Invisibility to Mental Senses, Telepathy Only (-1/2), no fringe for 15 pts. I know I could simply buy lots of Mental Defense, but this isn't the answer. Mental Defense is fairly easy to overcome, especially in a fantasy game. And the special effect of the spell is supposed to be an automatic thing. I did think maybe Mental Illusion…

After the summer I will run a demo HERO System game (spread over 4-5 sessions) in the local shop. The problem is that I'm a bit lost here. How do I run a such short campaign where I show the systems strengths, without mixing things up for the newbies? The main problem is which parts of the system should I try to focus on, and which genre shows this best?

I had an interesting idea last night as I drifted to the realms of morphius Simply put, what about using martial arts with mental powers? First thought is that you would use the ranged MA instead of melee. Target falls would indicate that they were momentarily disorientated instead of a litteral fall (probably resisted with something other than breakfall) v/x damage would be inappropriate probebly I could see allowing some hand to hand as well (Specificaly Dodge, but have it add to EDCV instead, maybe block...)

Does anyone know where I can find the limitation for a power which only works when body is taken? I am making a magical fire sword and I wanted it to have some element killing damage...this is how I did it 2d6 HKA (30AP) (OAF -1) (STR MIN 10 -1/2) RC 12 Plus 1d6 EB(Fire) (NND +1, Resistant ED) (Does Body +1) (15AP) (No Range -1/2) (Only when Body is taken -?) RC ? (Total Real Cost 12 + ?) Is this good...if not, how would you improve/change it? Would the limitation be linked or only when body is taken?

I very rarely dream of RPGs... but last night, HERO was an exception. In it, I was a Champion. No, I don't remember what my powers were; in fact, I think the most super thing I did was ride a ride-on lawnmower. More on that in a second. You see, I live just outside of the town limits. The road past my house goes up and becomes less and less developed, until it becomes a gravel road that stretches for about a half mile through woods and reaches the judge's estate. I've only been there only once, but it must have been enough for my subconscious to deem it a devious and spooky place, because in my dream, that's where VIPER had built their school. It was f…

So what's the deal with Two-Weapon Fighting? If I read the rules correctly, a character can basically double their speed for under 20 points. Am I the only person who sees a problem with this? Or am I misreading it?

Hello all. I like to run heroic level games and since I play a lot with D20 people I explain that Weapon Familiarity is just that you know how to use a weapon without hurting yourself. If you want to show that you are really trained in it and are good with the weapon you should take Combat Skill Levels. This raises the question of what does how many combat skill levels represent? If I have a +3 OCV with swords what, in real world terms, does that mean? Am I good, real good, OMG I can't believe anyone can do that with a sword. What do you use? Do you see what I am asking?

5er suggests characters who have Megascale Movement to take the Megascale advantage on their senses as well, to be able to perceive where they're headed and possible obstacles. Now, since the suggested solution is rather kludgy (because it involves using naked Advantages), shouldn't be alternative solutions equally effective, such as +PER to Targeting Sense(s), only When Using Megascale Movement, or adding the Telescopic Modifier to the character's Targeting Sense(s) ?

Hello Hero people. A player of mine building a character for a game and i've got a couple of issues. I would like to get the opinions of the wise : Background : loosely based on a small part of Marvel's Mandarin story. A long time ago; a powerful wizard managed to trap a powerful genie inside 10 magical rings. The PC found five of the rings and now used to fight for justice and all this kind of things. Powers Each ring is able to - Call one of the genie's power (a multipower) - to transform itself into a sentient double of the wearer at command. while in this form, the ring can only use its own power and the wearer cannot use this ring as long as it …

Im making a custom bow for a skilled archer and was wondering what anyone thought of it. 2d6 RKA (16 RC, Recovers under limited circumstances +0) Autofire (5 shots, +1/2) 45 AP (OAF -1) (Required Hands 2 -1/2) (Str Min 10, -1/2) (Beam -1/4) Real Cost 14 I used Autofire to simulate a quickhanded and skilled archer, and with Autofire skills its really effective. But I was going to do a multipower with it instead like this. Multipower 67 AP (16 RC, Recovers under limited circumstances +0) (OAF -1) (Required Hands 2 -1/2) (Str Min 10, -1/2) Real Cost 22 1u 2d6 RKA (16 RC, Recovers under limited circumstances +0) Autofire (5 shots, +1/2) 45…

Can someone explain the difference between Ultraviolet Perception and Nightvision in terms of their game effects? They both cost the same points and seem to provide similar effects. However, for the same point cost, it seems that Nightvision is a better ability since it allows you to see in dark buildings, sewers, and caves. Ultraviolet Perception would seem to indicate that you need some source of UV light to still see. I'm just wondering why you would purchase one over the other. Thanks.

A character has a MP of Mental effects, The effects include EB (TK Punches) and the normal mental powers If a character wanted to buy some skill levels to use the mp would they be 3 or 5 point skill levels. The question stems from the basic difference between mental and normal attacks...

I'm trying to create a simple protection spell wherein a wizard can give a Force Field to himself and several others--obviously a Useable Simultaneously. However, I'm confused as to how the Area of Effect (Radius) could be applied to this effect, or even if it should. I want a spell that the wizard can use to protect formations of troops, which would suggest an Area of Effect. But the spell is already designed to work on 4x the normal number of people when Used Simultaneously, so is AoE even necessary. To further my confusion, how does Ranged work here? If the spell is not Ranged (and Useable on Others defaults to No Range), do the recipents of the protection have to be s…

Steve, if you're building the Transfer just to feed itself, instead make a Drain that is 0 END Continuous Uncontrolled, which is much more straightforward. Just define a "reasonably common" circumstance to stop the effect, and/or set a finite limit of some sort (either time or effect or both), and you're set. It's kind of chessy and most GM's would never consider allowing it -- but it's doable. Alternately, you could take a straightforward Drain and buy the FADE rate down the Time Chart, and define the SFX as the Drain feeding back into itself in a reciprocal loop to maintain the effect for a long period of time.

Found these when following another link to some of his house rules. Once I understood the chart, which I think is pretty swell, I got to thinking that something coded would be more useful, at least from the "I need to attack now" PoV. So, here it is. Take it, take it, grab your chicken and bake it. http://www.narosia.com/masscombat/ Thanks Markdoc.

I'm just throwing it out there to see if I'm interpreting it correctly. This isn't a "should" or "shoud not" discussion... but trying to figure out "what is." Defenses: The core mechanic (ignoring Mental Defense or Power Defense) - 1 Normal PD or 1 Normal ED for 1 Active point... right? - Also, it is INHERENTLY PERSISTANT Making Normal Def into Resistant Defense- effectively a +1/2 Advantage on the Normal PD and ED... but in reality, a kind of adder, or secondary defense... 1 Active point gets you 2 points of Resistant Defense - what is odd is that this changes the Game State of the original defenses (like an Advantage would) but is then treat…

Turn Mode = Distance Traveled this Phase/5. No turn mode is a +1/4 advantage that sets your turn mode to 0" at all times. Movement Skill Levels for Flight cost 2pt each and reduce your Turn Mode on a 1:1 basis, to a minimum of 0". They have additional benefits, such as bonuses for landing or GM optional DCV or acceleration/deceleration bonuses. So, if you have 5" of flight, geting a 0" Turn Mode will cost you 2 pts either way. If, by contrast, you have 30" of flight, getting a 0" Turn Mode will cost you 15pts with the No Turn Mode advantage. It will only cost you 12pts if you instead buy 6 Movement Skill levels. Am I missing something or is No Turn …
